Of Forgotten Stuff from Blogs Past, Tingting Birthday, and August Goings-On

Heave-ho, me buckos. In spite of it having been more than a month since I last posted, not much blogworthy material comes to mind at the moment, except for stuff that I meant to mention in my last post and somehow forgot about. Like, for instance, how Laura won a year's supply of Del Taco in a raffle at a fundraiser. Or how Alyssa and Becca met Gramps from Amazing Race 12 at a garage sale and got a full rundown of his globehopping exploits. He even showed them his "FF" tattoo. Man, talk about missing out on life-defining experiences. That guy was the epitome of old guy awesomeness. I hope that when I'm a crotchety septagenarian, I'll have the moxie to pole vault over a ditch in my underpants on live TV.

So Tingting just turned two on Saturday. Alyssa made a birthday cake in her honor and we enjoyed it Sunday evening. Yeah, she (Tingting) wasn't around to enjoy it with us, but we don't feel too bad about that, because she appears to eat plenty of cake without us at the orphanage, at least according to the pictures posted on the orphanage website. (I've attached some of those pictures at the end of this post.) Besides, I'm sure she'll get so much cake here at home that it will be coming out her ears. We're supposed to be getting our letter of approval from China any day now. After that it will be just a matter of a few weeks before we take off on the biggest adventure of our lives. Nervous? Nah. Well, maybe a little.

Other than that, we recently saw Aladdin at Tuacahn (thanks, Mom!) and a pre-screening of The Odd Life of Timothy Green sponsored by the Utah Adoption Council. (Good movie, though, as I told Alyssa, it was basically Nanny McPhee with leaves instead of warts. Also, I was quite impressed that they got Jennifer Garner to reprise her EXACT ROLE from Juno.) We also took Brayden to see Fiddler on the Roof at an outdoor theater in Orem, and jolly good times were had, except for when they had to stop the show for 15 minutes because of rain. Oy vey! Also for our picnic lunch for the show I went to Subway and, for reasons that elude me except that I must be a space cadet, bought a meatball sub. A HOT sub. For a picnic TWO HOURS LATER. Oy vey indeed.
