A-hoy-hoy. It's funny how when interesting/wacky blogworthiness happens in Greenlandia, it generally happens in spurts. You'll notice that I have not posted for a month and a half. This is because nothing terribly blogworthy happened between then and now, up until the last two weeks or so, when we planted our garden AND went to Timpanogos Cave for our fourth anniversary/Memorial Day AND went to Park City for our fifth anniversary. (Yeah, our fourth anniversary activity was a little on the belated side.) We've gone pretty nutzoid on the garden this year, having planted tomatoes, peppers (both bell and burn-your-lips-off varieties), onions, eggplant, pumpkin, cantaloupe, lettuce, spinach, radishes, strawberries, raspberries, and several herbs. We tried cucumber twice, and both times, the plant just disappeared into thin air like Bilbo Baggins. We think maybe some kind of bird ate it, but we're not sure. I told Alyssa I wanted to try a third time, just because I don't want the animals to win. I mean, come on, if I let some dinky little varmint with a brain the size of a gumball get the better of me, who's the higher species? I ask you. Anyway, we finally decided to give up on cucumber for the year. But everything else is coming along pretty well.
We went to Timpanogos Cave on Memorial Day. Pretty gnarly; this was the first time I'd been there. It's funny how so many of the rock formations look like food. "Cave bacon," "Cave popcorn," "Caramel Falls," etc. At times I was tempted to lick the rocks, but somehow or other, I clung to my willpower and prevailed. Anyway, it was awesome and our butts hurt something fierce from the hike the next day.
Finally, for our fifth anniversary extravaganza, we went to Park City Friday; ate dinner at an Asian-ish restaurant in which Alyssa ordered (I swear) sushi AND tacos in the same meal; spent the night in a hotel that didn't have an in-room fridge where we could stow our sparkling grape juice (which I purchased at a garage sale in Lindon for 28 cents) and blatantly LIED on its webpage about having a continental breakfast but did have an extremely nice pool and sauna; and the next day walked around the old part of town, shopped until I was whiny and then some at the outlet stores, and went on the Alpine Slide and Alpine Coaster at the Park City Something Something Mountain Resort, which was jolly good fun, especially the Coaster. We were also supposed to go on a horsey ride, but the lady who I'd set up the ride with forgot we were supposed to be going on said ride, so we'll be returning next Saturday to give it another shot; as penance for forgetting, she also promised us tickets to attend a country western-style (shudder) party at night, replete with country western-style (shudder) good times and country-western style (triple shudder) dancing. At least the food should be good. That's the Ben Motto for these kinds of sitch-ee-ations.
