Of Adoption Hoo-Hah, Jackson Hole, Dilbert, and Hot Home Ec Teaching Wives

Howdy doody. Due in part to being ridiculously busy with adoption stuff--not to mention the fact that it's a lot easier for me to play Heroes of Might & Magic II than it is to write a blog entry rife with zaniness and wit--it's been a while since I've posted. And a post is well overdue, mon frere. Alyssa and I are getting ridiculously close to finishing all of the 80 bazillion tasks we need to complete in order to be approved for adoption. Friday afternoon we had our home study, which went well, aside from our not having a fire extinguisher and needing to move some cleaning supplies to a higher shelf. Go us, woo. Yeah. Then Friday night and all day Saturday we attended adoption classes, which were mostly good, especially three separate panels consisting of adoptive couples, birth moms, and adult adoptees. I think the birth mom panel was the most powerful. There are a lot of misconceptions that birth moms who give up their babies are selfish, but there's nothing remotely selfish about wanting to give a baby a better life. I have a lot of admiration and respect for those girls now.

Last week Alyssa and I went to Jackson Hole with her parents. Good times, good times. We went on a sleigh ride and saw roughly 1000 elk (no exaggeration, it being an elk refuge), went tubing, and shopped our hinies off. Oh yeah, we also went on a scenic mountain drive and saw a moose and a whole sheepload of bighorn sheep. I should also mention that they boosted us up to first class on our flight out of Salt Lake. Not too much different than coach, really, aside from the seats being wider and the flight attendants graciously hanging up our coats, but hey! First class! Woot!

Friday was the last day in the South Jordan office at work. Tomorrow after my torture session (by which I mean my physical) I shall begin the workweek at the new office in Sandy, which isn't looking nearly as fun at this point. No window through which to see wildlife and police drug busts; no more most spacious office on the floor (I'm in a cubicle now--what am I, a Dilbert character?); and, to top it all off, a FREAKING COMPLICATED PHONE which I am hoping and praying I never have to use.

Did I mention that Alyssa has returned to school? She should be finishing up her bachelor's in Family Consumer Something Something (you know, the home economics thing) in the summer. You know that hot home ec teacher you had in high school? (Come on, everyone had one.) Well, in a few years I'll be MARRIED to her. Rock on.

Your posts are really funny. But I was writing to tell you that I tagged you (Ben...not Alyssa) on my blog. You don't have to do it if you don't want.
