Of Nick and Julia's Nuptials, Alyssa in a Toilet Paper Dress, Utter Insanity of the Good Sort for Christmas, Berlioz Operas, and WidowFest '11

Sain baina uu. Happy Mongolian Independence Day. It's also the fifth day of Christmas, which in the song is the part where my brethren and I always used to croon "Five roast beef sandwiches!" at the top of our lungs, just because we are such hilarious sons o' guns and also because we apparently watched way too much TV growing up. Speaking of trashing Christmas songs, I only received three responses to the lame lyrics survey and all three were  for different songs. However, since two respondents expressed disgust towards "Winter Wonderland," I hereby name it the winner, and deservedly so. "Rhyming 'snowman' with 'No, man'? Pure genius!"

So a lot of stuff has gone on, as is generally the case with Christmas. (Oh, sorry. The HOLIDAYS. Bite my keyboard.) The biggest thing was, of course, Nick and Julia's wedding in St. George, which was loverly, especially during the luncheon when yours truly shared the touching tale of how Nick as a youngster was me and Sheridan's official "Shower Tester," meaning we would make him get in the shower while the water was still freezing and he would shriek like a twelve-year-old girl at a Jonas Brothers concert. Ah, torturing one's younger siblings. Such memories. But seriously, the wedding was nice, and congrats to the happy couple. Now come get your furniture out of our basement before I toss it out on the lawn. Just kidding! Maybe! I don't have any pictures of the blessed event yet; hopefully I can get someone to send me a few, but until then, we'll have to make do with a "proxy" photo, which I have posted below. And yes, that is Alyssa wearing a wedding dress made of toilet paper. It's the best we could do at the moment.

Christmas itself was good. Alyssa's entire immediate family was around for the first time since I've been a part of it, I think, along with all twelve niece-phews (eight of whom are under the age of ten), along with cousins aplenty, along with their under-ten-lings, so...yeah. Utter insanity, but the good kind of utter insanity, like when you're on your mission and somebody sicks their dog on you. There have been three different family Christmas parties up to this point, with a fourth slated for New Years. Party overload? I don't believe so, considering that Calvin and Julie are headed off to Sendai next Tuesday and this is the last time we'll get to see them for a while. So, for now, bring on the insanity.

Alyssa and I attended two different Christmas concerts this past month (including Berlioz' opera "Childhood of Christ," which was funny because poor Alyssa kept falling asleep during the important narrative bits where the plot is actually moving forward and then waking up during the long pointless solo numbers, such as when Herod is singing about deer) and also had a recital for our respective music students. I also have to mention the Saturday a few weeks ago when we delivered cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies to most of the widows in our ward (of which there are many--President Monson would seethe with jealousy), and we wound up spending from 45 minutes to an hour at each residence, including one at which we played Boggle with the good sister for well over an hour. We started at about nine in the morning and didn't finish until after sundown. But like I told Alyssa, it was time well spent. THAT, my dear Charlie Brown, is what Christmas is all about. Oh, and baby Jesus too.

We'll just pretend this photo of Alyssa draped in toilet paper is Julia until a legit wedding picture surfaces.

She's a "Print Device Wizard"! Get it? Oh man, the fun never ends in the Green residence.

Ohhhhhh, it's Hector! (He's probably getting sick of people saying that every time they see him.)

Hector has been talking about you pretty much nonstop since we left St. George. Just randomly throughout the day he goes, "Uncle Beano! Uncle Beano!" You and basketball are his two favorite topics of conversation.
