Ooh, check me out! I'm blogging on a WEDNESDAY. In all the history of bloggery, such as thing has never been done. Take THAT, Melissa! Anyway, a happy new year to all...in JAIL. Just kidding. Oh man, that line never gets old. Neither does my all-time favorite one-liner from that movie: "I'll hang HER up!" Thank you, Jimmy Stewart, for influencing pretty much every comeback I've used (and my mom, for that matter) for roughly the last twenty or so years. Like the time in college when my roommate Josh said "Hmm, what should I have for breakfast?" and I retorted with "You can have my FIST!" Ooh man, that was classic. No wonder Josh and I have kept in such close contact over the years. Oh wait, we haven't.

So another Christmas has come and gone. As usual, Alyssa and I spent what seemed like about seventy-five percent of our free time whipping up veritable swamps of goodies for family and neighbors--almond butter cookies, cranberry orange bread, and Ethiopian spice bread, to name just a few. I tried my hand at toffee again and screwed up on it TWICE. The more this happens, the more I tend to think the recipe is a phony that my mom gave me as a practical joke. Oh man, Mom, you're a LAUGH RIOT. Making me waste a whole box of butter and two bags of almonds, huzzah, what fun! Just kidding, Mumzy, you know I love you. Anyway, the week before Christmas Alyssa's parents had two of their trademark shenanniganous Christmas parties, which were jolly good fun, except for during the first one when I was loading dishes into the dishwasher and my back pretty much gave out. Wowzers, what agony. I could barely stand up for about two days. I went to a chiropractor the day after the unpleasantness and he did his chiropractor thing on me and I seem to be in better shape now, but MAN. It's just one form of mind-wracking pain after another around here lately. I must be getting old.

Alyssa and I spent half of Christmas Day (since she had to report for work in the morning, though she didn't actually do any work since they sent her home as soon as she walked in the door) and the week after Christmas in St. George with mi familia. It was loverly; everyone was around, including baby Hector and all known sisters-in-law. As is usually the case with St. George trips, we didn't do a whole lot besides eat food and play the Wii, but what's family for? We also visited chumsleys (including the Ashworths, whom I hadn't seen for several years), went shopping, made Cajun food, and Alyssa got her presh little self a PEDICURE. With orange toenails. (Come on, what color would you expect for Alyssa?)
